Moving through time
James II fled London in December 1688 and Parliament handed the crown to William and Mary, settling that kings rule by consent. In 1683 a 300,000-strong Ottoman army besieged Vienna and was broken by a Polish-led relief force, ending Ottoman expansion into Europe for good.
1683 saved Vienna and 1688 settled England. The film Day of the Siege recreates the Ottoman trenches outside Vienna, and The Witch of Blackbird Pond follows an orphaned girl into the Connecticut Colony of 1687. Open the 1680s on the StoryTerra map and explore its stories by place.
