Moving through time

1780s1790s1800s

Revolutionary France executed its king in 1793 and then its revolutionaries, with Robespierre guillotined in 1794. Haiti's enslaved population rose in 1791 and had effectively won independence by decade's end, while a young Corsican officer named Bonaparte seized power in Paris in 1799.

1793-94 showed revolution devouring its own. Andrzej Wajda's Danton stages the 1793 split between Danton and Robespierre, and Selinko's Désirée follows Napoleon's first fiancée through the same Paris. Open the 1790s on the StoryTerra map and explore its stories by place.
