Charles Edward Stuart landed in Scotland in 1745, marched to Derby and was crushed at Culloden in April 1746, ending Jacobitism as a military cause. Frederick of Prussia seized Silesia in the War of the Austrian Succession, and the first Methodist conferences organized a new church.

Culloden in 1746 lasted under an hour and ended a century of Stuart plotting. Diana Gabaldon's Dragonfly in Amber returns to the Paris and Highlands of 1745, and Stevenson's The Master of Ballantrae divides two brothers across the same rising.
